How’s This for a Lark, 2018
watercolour on handmade 100% cotton rag paper
81 x 63 cm, framed
This Royal Crown Derby Milford ginger jar decorated in Old Imari is the stage for this eccentric tableau I have had in my mind ever since I found out that the birds my mum referred to as peewees were actually magpie larks… well… I just had to have one ‘larking’ about on a magpie! And the marble? Well, there was a particular small size of marble known as a peewee when I was a child. This painting is pure nostalgia for me.
