MIA SALSJÖ
Mia Salsjö is a Melbourne-based artist and composer whose expansive projects encompass drawing, music composition, text, performance, video, and textiles. Her works follow a complex code-based system of translation; and in each stage of translation, from built form, to scores, to musical composition, Salsjö’s works embody the slippages and possibilities of language and communication.
Salsjö holds a Master of Fine Art (2010), Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) (2007) and a Bachelor of Music Performance (2000) from the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne. She has exhibited widely in Melbourne, regional Victoria and participated in Casa de Asia, 13th Bienal de la Habana, Cuba (2018).
Currently a Studio Artist at Gertrude Contemporary, Melbourne 2020-2022, Salsjö, has also undertaken residencies at Villa Arianna, Havana, Cuba in 2015 and 2017. In 2019, she was awarded a City of Melbourne Arts Grant which supported the creation of the multidisciplinary project The Quietude. Her work is held in several private collections and the State Library of Victoria.
