Robert Nanala Tjapaltjarri is a Pintupi man from the Kiwirrkura region. He often paints works associated with ancestral sites, particularly the salt lake Marawa, near Wilkinkarra (Lake Mackay in WA). It is told, that during ancestral times, Tingari men travelled to this site and then passed beneath the earth’s surface and continued travelling underground. The Tingari are a group of ancestral beings and it is believed a large ancestral snake lives below Marawa.
