Trevor Smith

Trevor Smith was born in Penola (SA) in 1961. In the early 1980s he completed a Diploma of Visual Arts at Warrnambool Institute of Advanced Education (now Deakin University), majoring in sculpture. Smith creates replicas of elaborate meals and household appliances in crocheted wool. Cheese platters, baked hams, toasters, and hair dryers are carefully constructed using foam armatures underneath the woolen exteriors.

For over 30 years Trevor has been employed in curatorial roles with public collections – Ararat Regional Art Gallery (1985-88), Horsham Regional Art Gallery (1989-2007), and more recently with Glenelg Shire Council, based in Portland. He is resolute about his art making staying a hobby, allowing his creativity to live unbounded and undefined.
