About the Artist

Vernissage – October 7, 6pm

The Colours of the Land brings together two of Australia’s most significant practicing artists; painter, Jason Benjamin and ceramicist, Pippin Drysdale. Both artist’s work speaks directly to the Australian landscape; deserts and coastlines, endless skies and sunbaked earth. Landscapes shaped by millennia and etched into the collective understanding of what ‘Australia’ is.

At the core of the Australian psyche is the draw of the bush – calling people towards the wild places that remind us of our place in the world. At once; harsh and unforgiving – and yet always a wellspring of life and incredible beauty. The Colours of the Land is rich with this emotive power, exploring the call of the Australian landscape.

Both artists are celebrated masters of their respective practices. Benjamin is superbly technical oil painter and a regular finalist in the Archibald and Moran prizes. He is represented in numerous public and private collections within Australia and exhibits extensively nationally and internationally. Pippin Drysdale has a career spanning over 40 years. She is one of Australia’s most important ceramicists, with an impressive international profile, exhibiting in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Holland, India and Japan.
