Paul Yore
Let Us Not die From Habit

21 Nov - 14 Dec 2019

Paul Yore’s intensely layered, hand-sewn textile forms mirror the digital age. An assemblage of words, statements and images, Yore questions ideologies that dictate behaviour and the interpretation of language, meaning and reality. Through laborious needle-work techniques, such as quilting, appliqué and embroidery, Yore brings time, history and digitally mediated culture into the same plain. In this flattened, ambiguous space, Yore expresses an unwillingness to define and instead invites the viewer to look once again.

Recent solo exhibitions include: Let the World Burn, at the Ararat Gallery, Textile Art Museum of Australia; and It’s All Wrong But It’s Alright, a technicolour chapel for Dark Mofo, Tasmania. In the last twelve months alone Yore has featured in group exhibitions in Poland, The United Kingdom, Austria, The Netherlands and Australia. Highlights include: 16th international Triennal of Tapestry: Breaching Borders, Centralne Muzeum Włókiennictwa, Łódź, Poland; Garden of Eden, Schloss Neuhaus, Austria; and MOSTYN Open 21, Mostyn Art Gallery, Llandudno, Wales.

Michael Reid Berlin is pleased to exhibit Let Us Not Die From Habit (2018) which was recently presented at the Rijswijk Textile Biennale in The Netherlands. The work will be on display and available in an online exhibition 21st November – 14 December 2019.

This exhibition has been organised in collaboration with Berlin-based curator Rachael Vance.
