Trevor Smith was born in Penola in 1961, grew up on a farm at Joanna in South Australia and completed his primary and secondary education at Naracoorte. In the early 1980s he completed a Diploma of Visual Arts at Warrnambool Institute of Advanced Education (now Deakin University), majoring in sculpture.
Over the past 35 years Smith has exhibited his crochet artworks in regional galleries in Mount Gambier, Naracoorte, Horsham, Hamilton, Warrnambool, Ballarat and Ararat; Portland Art Centre; The Johnson Collection (Melbourne); Walker Street Gallery (Melbourne); Surfworld (Torquay); National Wool Museum (Geelong); Elizabeth Arthur Fine Art (Hamilton); Local Images (Penola) and Icon Gallery (Deakin University, Melbourne). Smith first showed with Michael Reid Sydney in 2016 in a group exhibition, Fleeced, curated by Kirsten Fredericks.
His work is held in the collections of Ararat Regional Art Gallery and Horsham Regional Art Gallery as well as significant private collections in Sydney.
