Summer Exposure: Masterworks of Contemporary Australian Photography

7 - 30 Jan 2021

Summer Exposure brings together a prominent cast of Australia’s leading contemporary photographers. On display are masterworks from renowned photographers, Tamara Dean, Narelle Autio, Dr Christian Thompson AO, Trent Parke, Petrina Hicks and Joseph McGlennon. Works from Petrina Hicks’ major survey exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria, Bleached Gothic can be viewed alongside works from Trent Parke and Narelle Autio’s first collaborative series Seventh Wave, the first major body of work Narelle and Trent cooperated on over 20 years ago. Dr Christian Thompson’s works from the series Equinox (2018) and Australian Graffiti  (2008) will also be on display, which in a landmark achievement of 2020 were amongst the seventeen works by the artist acquired by White Rabbit Collection for their latest cultural build, Phoenix Central Park. Works from Joseph McGlennon’s Awakening series, possibly Australia’s most successful commercial photography exhibition in history, will also be available to view and acquire.

During the month of January we will be hosting ‘Summer Sundowners’; afternoon drinks at the gallery every Thursday, Friday & Saturday from 2-6pm alongside an exhibition of works from some of our favourite photographic artists. Stop by for a drink and to explore the exhibition, hosted by our new Head of Private Clients, Chris Mathews.

Joining the gallery at the end of 2020, Chris Mathews combines over thirty years of experience in financial markets with a lifelong passion for collecting, viewing and studying art. For the past twenty years, his role has seen him as a trusted advisor and confidant to high net worth individuals and family offices in Sydney, rural Australia, Hong Kong, and London. His personal journey as a collector and client has enabled him to tailor the client experience at MRG to suit the requirements and wishes of collectors, large and small. This includes guiding corporate entities through upcoming exhibitions, gallery events, Art Signifikant and the hosting of client-focussed engagement within the gallery.
