‘In early 2016 I participated in the Aboriginal Print Workshop alongside Julie Gough, Tony Albert, and Daniel Browning at Cicada Press at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. Tess Allas facilitated this unique opportunity and supported us while we worked collaboratively with the master printmaker Michael Kempson to each create new work.

This photogravure print was one of a series that I produced from black and white negatives that were scanned and sent to a colleague of Michael’s at Alfred University in New York, where they specialise in creating photopolymer/photogravure plates. The original photograph becomes a hand printed intaglio etching, created by using the photopolymer plate, archival inks, fine art paper and the traditional etching press.’ – Nici Cumpston, 2022
