Opening Friday 20 May, Michael Reid Berlin is honoured to present the debut, international solo-exhibition by renowned Yankunytjatjara artist, Betty Chimney. Based in the Indulkana community in the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, South Australia, she is a revered painter and senior woman in the community.
A director of Iwantja Arts, Chimney is also the mother and teacher of fellow artist, Raylene Walatinna, whose collaborative works have captivated audiences at Michael Reid for several years. In both 2021 and 2022, Betty Chimney has been nominated as a Wynne Prize Finalist by the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Her paintings can be found there and in the permanent collection of Queensland Art Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA).
