Firmly positioned as one of the country’s most desirable new painters, Kaspar Kägi’s graphic paintings channel a conventional sensibility with slight notes of the surreal.
Borrowing from still life and subject painting frameworks, without exclusively belonging to either two, Kägi’s broad interpretation of subject matter is unified by his signature pointillist technique.
Currently favouring organic subject matter, Kaspar Kägi’s potted plants, garden weeds and ‘portraits’ or orchid flowers are made especially dramatic set against thinly textured backgrounds of flat colour planes.
Since making his 2019 exhibition debut with Michael Reid Berlin, the Sydney based artist has consolidated more than ten years of painting practice to present four solo exhibitions at Michael Reid Sydney.
