Juan Ford

Juan Ford is an Australian artist known for his exploration of realism in painting and his examination of the human figure’s relationship with the natural environment. He has developed strategies that challenge the traditional dialogue between painting and photography, seeking to expand the potential of realism.

Ford received a Master of Art from RMIT University in 2001 and has since been involved in numerous commissions and exhibitions. His commissions include works for institutions such as the Australian War Memorial, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Melbourne Jewish Museum, Monash University, The University of Sydney, and Trinity College Melbourne.

The artist has exhibited extensively both in Australia and internationally. He has had solo exhibitions at venues such as Palazzo Bembo in Venice in 2017, Galerie du Monde in Hong Kong in 2019, Nakanojo Biennale in Gunma Prefecture in 2015, and Art Basel Hong Kong in 2013.

Ford has also participated in major group exhibitions, including Art Basel Hong Kong in 2019, The Daejeon Museum of Art in Korea in 2015, Bendigo Art Gallery’s Arthur Guy Memorial Painting Prize in 2020, Art Stage Singapore, National Portrait Gallery Canberra in 2014, Melbourne Now at the National Gallery of Victoria, and Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art.

Throughout his career, Juan Ford has been the recipient of prestigious international awards and residencies, spanning across Australia, Italy, and the United States. His practice pushes the boundaries of realism in painting and offers new perspectives on the human figure and its relationship to the natural world.
