‘Bawáliba are good spirits, they protect us. They are really tall – just like us. They dance late at night and have a lot of hair. In olden times, a long long long time ago, Bawáliba were here, before people were on the land. One time, the Bawáliba were really deep asleep. They didnt hear the noise of the Ngalyod, the Rainbow Serpent, coming. When they heard it, they hid in their cave. Ngalyod came in, but it was too late to run. He ate the Bawáliba. They all died, he ate their legs and arms into pieces. Only one survived.’
