Presence and Perception, 2023

We are thrilled to announce the publication of Presence and Perception, the first monograph for Brisbane-based painter John Honeywill.

Published by Michael Reid Galleries, this new book is lavishly illustrated with works created over the last ten years and features Honeywill’s own reflections alongside an essay by Amber Creswell Bell.

Honeywill’s still-life paintings meticulously depict everyday objects and elevate them from the domestic to the visceral through his mastery of light, colour and space. Disregarding narrative – a traditional trope of still-life painting – the artist instead seeks to capture a stillness and mood. His paintings are about the perception and the presence of the objects themselves.
